Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics

PAOO in Gaithersburg MD

Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO) is an in-office clinical surgical procedure that can predictably reduce total orthodontic treatment time to 3-8 months, eliminating the conventional 24-36 month duration. This is accomplished by the precise and meticulous treatment of the bone and gum tissue which results in the healing response known as the Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon (RAP), expediating the metabolism and physiology of the bone and gum tissue.

Once the procedure is performed, there is a 4-5 month period where the RAP is experienced as orthodontic treatment is in progress. The PAOO procedure involves the combination of selective alveolar corticotomy ( bone cutting ), particulate bone grafting, and orthodontic force application. It is well-tolerated, produces minimal discomfort, and is dependent on patient compliance.

The benefits of PAOO are the following:

– rapid tooth movement ( up to 300-400% faster )  decreasing treatment time to 3-8 months

– facilitates an increase in bone volume and width via particulate bone grafting

– increased post-treatment stability with greater long term outcomes

– decreased apical root resorption
